Parent Programs & Offerings

Parent Committee

The goal of the parent committee is to help support the schools mission, programs and activities. The parent committee will play a lead role in helping to foster an environment where parent involvement is encouraged and respected.

Policy Council

The Policy Council (PC) provides a formal means for parents to be involved in the Head Start program planning and decision-making process. It is designed for parent engagement and involvement in the program. The PC is very similar to Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) that you will find as an integral part of the governance structure at any school. PC membership consists of parent representatives that are elected by parents from their respective centers at the beginning of the program year, and representatives from community agencies. However, 51% of the PC must be parents of enrolled children. PC members represent their program service area and receive information, training, and reports which they take back to share with other parents at the monthly center meetings. The PC representatives serve as the voice for their respective centers and enrolled families. However, the PC as a whole makes decisions that impact all the program options.

Health Services

Health and physical development are crucial for early learning opportunities that require children to fully explore and experience their environment. All children receive health monitoring, screenings, and nutritious meals, and programs connect families with medical, dental, and mental health services to ensure children are receiving the care and attention they need. Children receive support for building resiliency to cope with possible adverse effects of trauma. Families also receive mental health consultation focused on each child’s needs.

Maternal Health Program

Expectant mothers are enrolled in the Kingsley House Parents as Educators program which provides pregnant women with prenatal and postpartum visits, education and services that address, as appropriate: fetal development, nutrition, STD education, risks of alcohol, drugs and smoking, labor, delivery and postpartum recovery, parental depression, infant care and safety. The goal of this program is to make referrals and provide consistent, accessible health care to maintain and increase the potential of good health for the mother and successful delivery of a healthy baby.

Meetings & Resources

Financial Literacy

Our goal behind teaching financial literacy is to help our families develop a stronger understanding of basic financial concepts to better handle their money. We teach about the importance of setting financial goals, tracking your spending, setting and living by a budget, finding ways to create a savings, how to analyze and decrease debt and last but not least, how to understand credit and your credit report. Click each of the below topics to find recordings and resources from that meeting.

Positive Parenting Program

Triple P gives parents simple and practical strategies to help build strong, healthy relationships and confidently manage their child’s behavior. It is held in a group setting so parents can build upon other’s strengths and encouragement and everyone can learn from each other.

Parent Meetings

During the school year parent meetings are scheduled monthly. Parents usually determine the areas of discussion and guest speakers are invited to address specific topics. These meetings will be held in our New Parent Café starting with the 2021–22 school year.
