Throughout this past week, we have watched heartbroken as another horrific natural disaster unfolded in Texas, so reminiscent of the tragic experience we lived through during Hurricane Katrina. Our hearts go out to the millions who are suffering from the devastating and prolonged impact of Hurricane Harvey.
Here in New Orleans and throughout our region, we have a special relationship with Houston, Lake Charles, Lafayette and the areas throughout Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. Bonds were forever forged when those communities came to our aid in the aftermath of Katrina. The outpouring of support, comfort, and love we received just 12 years ago was truly extraordinary. And, now, it is our turn to give back.
Toward that end, Kingsley House and fellow health and human service organizations with whom we formed important partnerships after Katrina are actively reaching out to our peers in the storm-ravaged areas. We are all too familiar with the long, long road to recovery, rebuilding and healing that lies ahead for them. We are fully committed to doing whatever it takes to assist and will be sharing the coordinated, collaborative and comprehensive efforts that were most effective for our region following Katrina. Hopefully this will provide a solid basis for the beginning of their recovery.
We know that you join us in keeping those in the affected areas deep in all of our thoughts and prayers.
