Dear Friends and Family:
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread and impact lives across our city, state and country, we are reaching out to our friends with an update on how we are working to ensure the safety and health of our staff and the children, families, medically-fragile adults, seniors and veterans we serve.
First and foremost, while the situation is incredibly fluid, we are following the guidance of local and national government, as well as public health organizations to mitigate risk and proactively slow the spread of the coronavirus. As you may know, beginning Monday, March 16, Kingsley House made the difficult decision to suspend all in-person programming. However, while our staff may not be in the classroom, the adult day care center, or in participant homes throughout the community, they are actively engaging with our families.
This week, our dedicated staff called nearly 1,000 families across all of our programs. They gathered information about the needs of our families, shared information with them on community resources such as ready.nola.gov as well as ways to cope, and provided productive activities for children, families, adults and seniors at home. We will continue ongoing outreach and connectivity with our families and are committed to addressing not only their immediate needs, but also the challenges many will likely face in the future, including job loss, and the disruption of skills training and educational attainment.
While Kingsley House continues our legacy of service and leadership, as always, we know we are not on this journey alone. Our staff and board leaders are members of the many emerging local, statewide and national collaborations and crisis response planning groups; we are working with our strategic partners to provide additional services for our families and community; and we are developing and implementing effective methods with our educational partners so our teachers can provide continuous virtual learning for our children throughout this crisis.
We appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support from you, our Kingsley family of supporters and friends, and will continue to provide updates throughout this period of response and recovery. Should you be in the position to support our work at this time, need our assistance, or know someone who does, please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. We pray you and your loved ones stay well and safe.
Until we see you again on campus,
Miles C. Thomas
