Early childhood education is a critical component in preparing youth to succeed at all levels of school. Studies show that children who enroll in a formal education program before entering kindergarten are more likely to graduate from high school.
For over 100 years, Kingsley House has been at the forefront of early education and quality child care in Louisiana. In fact, Kingsley House launched the very first kindergarten and summer school programs in the state. Our nationally accredited, historic Preschool and Early Head Start programs currently provide a dynamic, comprehensive array of academic and social enrichment activities, along with essential health and supportive services for 192 children and their families. With a wait list that ranges between 500 to 900 children, we continue our diligent efforts to add more early education space to our existing facilities, as well as the potential for new classroom construction to accommodate the needs of these children and their families.
Head Start
The Kingsley House Head Start program prepares preschool children for successful academic careers by using innovative methods to make learning how to read and write a fun activity. Our curriculum-based instruction is centered on facilitating an age-appropriate environment that allows children to learn through hands-on exploration and interation. The program also encourages parents to participate in building strong academic foundations for their children.
We also help build the capacity of parents and encourage them to participate in building strong academic foundations for their children through regular meetings, ongoing communication, and advocacy activities. In addition, the Head Start program supports families by serving as a safe and stimulating full day child care for working parents.
Early Head Start
Like Head Start, Early Head Start shares the approach of developing solid learning skills at a young age. These cognitive and behavioral skills play a vital role as young children begin to grow up. With our youngest participants only six weeks old, we are dedicated to extending the Kingsley House brand of quality educational childcare to infants and toddlers.
The Early Head Start program provides quality child care, educational and recreational services to infants and toddlers between the ages of 6 weeks to 2 years. Our Creative Curriculum for Family Child Care includes dramatic play, music, books, puzzles and art. These activities help promote interest among parents in the activities planned for their children. We also actively engage parents to participate in their child's education and recognize the importance of regular attendance to the foundation of their child's educational career. Many of the children who complete the Early Head Start program at Kingsley House transition to our Head Start preschool.
