In today's world, affordable health care and access to nutritious foods remain critical issues for many households, especially among low income families. While health care and food assistance programs exist, many who would qualify for these services are often unaware of their eligibility and may not understand how the system works.
Our Health Care For All (HCFA) program is dedicated to reaching out to families and connecting them with essential resources and services. Since the hurricanes, HCFA has assisted over 3,000 families with completing and submitting Medicaid, LACHIP and Food Stamp applications and securing vital documents. Team members conduct door-to-door family needs assessments to identify families that qualify for these services and assist them in successfully completing the necessary application forms. In addition, Health Care For All staff refer individuals who need other types of social services assistance to appropriate programs at Kingsley House and other agencies.
The program now provides Medicaid and Food Stamp outreach in the River Parishes of St. John the Baptist, St. James, St. Charles and Ascension, in coordination with our River Parishes Family Resource Center.
We also provide outreach and mental health supports to children and families in New Orleans East, an area sorely lacking vital services and still in the early stages of recovery and rebuilding.
