Creating balance in the home has positive impacts that help reduce neglectful and abusive behaviors and keep families together. In addition, mental and emotional well-being has never been more important than following Hurricane Katrina and is a crucial factor in the rebuilding and recovery process.
Kingsley House Family Life Services offers free individual and family counseling for persons needing mental health support and assistance. Counseling can either take place at the agency, one of our satellite locations, or can be provided at the individual or family's home at times that are most convenient for them (including evenings and weekends).
Family Preservation Services
Our nationally renowned Family Preservation Services program provides in-home counseling and therapy to at-risk families to minimize and eliminate child abuse and neglect. Our social workers and therapists conduct short term, intensive intervention to help participants learn effective and appropriate parenting skills, communication and conflict resolution skills to strengthen their families and avoid unnecessary child removals. We also educate family members on appropriate behaviors and how to function free from abuse. Family Preservation Services are provided to the 12 parish region of Southeast Louisiana.
Resettlement and Recovery Counseling Program
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, our Resettlement and Recovery Counseling Program has been providing counseling and supportive services to individuals and families impacted by the storm. Our therapists are trained in trauma recovery and work with individuals in developing coping skills to deal with stress, anxiety, depression and other issues in the aftermath of the storm. These services are available for individuals and families in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes.
