Dear Friends and Supporters:
My name is Jamia and I’m currently working on my MBA at UNO. Please allow me to share my Kingsley House story with you.
I became part of the Kingsley family as a toddler in their Early Learning Program. My time in this program gave me the building blocks for my entire academic career. I remember using a computer for the first time. I recall expanding my vocabulary, learning numbers, starting to read and making my first friends. Really, what I remember most, is that my love for learning started at Kingsley House.
Throughout my elementary school days, I excelled in school and was placed in gifted classes. Math and English came easily to me so I became a tutor to help others succeed. When it came time for high school, my counselors encouraged me to apply to Ben Franklin, one of the top high schools in the nation. I was accepted and worked very hard while I was there so I could receive scholarships to help me pay for college. I chose to attend LSU for my Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and qualified for the Louisiana TOPS scholarship. During my summers, I chose to return to Kingsley House as a counselor in their Summer Camp program. I was thrilled when I saw the job posting and felt compelled to apply. The job allowed me to help my community and return to a place that meant so much to me.
The fact that parents fight so hard to enroll their children into programs at Kingsley House is a true testament to the good work and impact of this organization. It all started for me here. I’m a proud KH Alum.
Will you support Kingsley House students just like me? Please consider a gift to Kingsley House for the 2018-2019 Annual Fund Campaign. Your support will create bright futures for so many children and families in our community.
P.S. My time at Kingsley House Summer Camp has inspired me to look into the nonprofit sector to help children in lesser developed countries or even locally. Thank you for supporting this wonderful organization!
