My name is Claudette and I am a resident at Columbia Parc at the Bayou District and a participant in Kingsley House’s Community and Supportive Services (CSS) program there. I have a college degree and a full-time job. I am a single mom to my 10 year old son Jonathan. You may wonder why someone like me needs Kingsley House?
As a single mom, I could never afford all the activities and resources Kingsley House provides for Jonathan and me. If not for Kingsley House, we would just be living, but now we are part of a community. As a mother, it is so important to me that my son is growing up in a safe place where neighbors are more like family, where he is learning to help others, especially the elderly. Living at Columbia Parc with Kingsley House’s services, has provided this sense of community for us.
Jonathan participated in the CSS Literacy Program. Not only did he learn to read, but it helped him become an honor roll student. He has also participated in their afterschool reading program and we have enjoyed activities such as Friday movie nights together. I am thankful for the program that was offered onsite at Columbia Parc in partnership with the Louisiana Children’s Museum that was not only beneficial for my son, but it also taught me some very important parenting skills. We have become a stronger family — thanks to Kingsley House.
The program director is truly special. He will do whatever is necessary to make sure that participants have the appropriate resources they need. I was in desperate need of a new car. Thanks to the program director’s efforts, I was nominated to a foundation looking to help families in need of transportation support and received a new car. I believe the support we received from that foundation was a genuine blessing and in appreciation, I have used our new car to help others in our community. I am also raising Jonathan with those same morals and ideals. During the week, we assist other residents by shuttling them around to do grocery shopping, pick up medicine from the pharmacy and help with school carpooling. This gift not only impacted us but also other CSS program participants.
I am writing today to encourage you to help families just like mine. With the support of community members like you and Kingsley House, lives can be positively transformed. Will you make a generous gift today to support Kingsley House?
